Cloud Computing Part One - Services

What is Cloud Computing?  To get started, we have a quick video of the basics of cloud computing before we talk about the online services you can use for your data. With the basic knowledge of cloud computing, it's time to pick a cloud computing service to hold all your information.  Picking a service is not as basic as asking your friend, "What do you use?".  You will need to take the time to look at many factors like: Available Memory (free) Upgrading Memory cost Desktop Client Mobile Applications Sharing Files Security How you are going to edit and use your files Autodesk 360 Autodesk just jumped into the cloud computing game with the release of Autodesk360 this year.  This service is deeply integrated with Autodesk products.  When you install an Autodesk product like AutoCAD, the software will map a new drive to access your Autodesk360 files.  Also the service syncs all your custom setting, so you can access them on another computer.

July App of The Month: Drawing Tabs

  Drawing Tabs Drawing Tabs is an awesome app that places your open drawing in a tab like format that makes it simple to move from drawing to drawing.  You are also able to save, save all, save as, close, close all and much more.  I think this is a great app and feature that Autodesk needs to look at adding to the next release.    Download it FREE on the Autodesk Exchange App Store Here

The New Autodesk Exchange App Store

Autodesk has made a big updated to the Exchange App store.  You are now available to access and download all the applications from your web browser.  The Autodesk Exchange App Store is available for a large range of Autodesk products like: AutoCAD AutoCAD Architecture AutoCAD Civil 3D AutoCAD ecscad AutoCAD Electrical AutoCAD Mechanical AutoCAD MEP Autodesk Alias Autodesk Inventor Autodesk Inventor Publisher Autodesk Revit Autodesk Simulation Autodesk Vault Check out the new Autodesk Exchange App Store , trust me you will like it!

Autodesk 360 Mobile App

Autodesk 360 is about to hit your mobile phone.  The application will be available for iOS and Android phones and tablets.  The application is not available at this time, but you can sign up for a reminder at Autodesk 360 website . This is one more step into the cloud computing era.

Quick Clue - QQuit

Save and close in one command! Just use the command QQUIT to quickly close and save your drawings. Command:_qquit

Quick Clue - Time

How much time have you invested in your drawing?  Use TIME command to find out. Command:_time Update: Thanks to Patrick on Google+ for a great reminder on this clue.  The time command keeps track of the time the drawing is open, not worked on.

Chris Chris is a CAD Technician for a Civil Engineering firm in Dallas, TX. He has been using Autodesk products since 2000. His background is in the Transportation and Site Development area.  Chris has also assisted in the implementation of CAD standards for his company. His proficiency in both Autodesk and Bentley products has allowed him to work on a variety of projects from athletic complexes to airport taxiway design.

Google Drive + AutoCAD WS

Google just released there long awaited cloud computing service called Google Drive.  Could this be the start of cloud computing in main stream business?.  With Apple calling the next era in computing a "Post PC world", I could see how Google Drive could be the start to that new era. AutoCAD WS is deeply integrated into the new Google Drive.  After installing the WS Chrome application , you are able to open and save drawings to Google Drive.  AutoCAD WS has a tutorial on how to use AutoCAD WS with Google Drive . AutoCAD WS What is in the future? With the popularity of Google Chrome  along with the growing interest in cloud computing and web based applications, Google maybe on to something here. Do you think Google is going to take over the cloud storage market? Do you think people will start using cloud computing now that Google Drive is integrated into Google Chrome?

3 Things You Need to Know Before Installing AutoCAD 2013

Other then knowing all the  AutoCAD 2013 Key Features  in the new release, there are 3 things you need to know before installing your shiny new toy. 1. What is Cloud Computing? Cloud Computing is a big part of the newest update to AutoCAD.  You are able to us the Autodesk service called Autodesk360 to sync your settings and files.  The video bellow is a good overview of what is cloud computing. 2. What is Autodesk360? Now that we know what is cloud computing, it's time to talk about the service AutoCAD is using to store your information.  Autodesk360 is the service that is integrated into AutoCAD 2013.  This will store both drawing information for access on other computers and mobile devices, along with your custom tools and profiles.  The video bellow will show you an overview of Autodesk360. 3. AutoCAD 2013 Key Features

The time has come! Time to talk about AutoCAD 2013 and all the new cool features. Command Line Enhancements Yes they have changed the command line....It's about time. The command line is now a floating object with transparent history. Array Enhancements A large  amount of array enhancements have been added to the new release. In-canvas Property Preview I am in love with this update.  When you change the property of an object, the changed property will displayed in the model. Point Cloud Support The new point cloud tool has been added to the insert ribbon for quick access to point cloud tools.  AutoCAD 2013 also added the ability to xref point clouds.  Also a number of display options for point clouds has been added. PressPull AutoCAD has added press and pull for multiple objects.  Nice! It's about time. Importing Inventor File The time has come!  We can import Inventor models into AutoCAD. AutoCAD WS 1.4 Update and Review

AutoCAD WS 1.4 update Autodesk released the very anticipated upgrade to AutoCAD WS.  The new update brings GPS support, 3D object viewing, and Plotting. Check out the video Original AutoCAD WS Blog release AutoCAD WS 1.4 Review GPS support - Being in civil design I was looking forward to this little feature and love it.  It’s like placing a little me in my design. Now I will not feel like a dork walking around London. :^) Friends - London Baby!! 3D object viewing – I have only been able to play with one very simple 3D drawing in the new update.  Every time I try and open an advance 3D object or drawing, the application crashes.   The good news is we now have support for Civil 3D files. Plotting – I don’t see myself using this feature that much, but is was very nice to send a .pdf via email yesterday of a drawing. I will keep testing out the new update and try to keep you posted on what I find. What do you think of the new update to AutoCAD WS? Do you find the app
